Imperial Beach is a city located in San Diego County, California. Imperial Beach claims the distinction of being the "Most
Southwesterly City - in the continental United States. The City is located in the Southwest corner of San Diego County,
only 5 miles from the Mexican Border and 11 miles from downtown San Diego. Imperial Beach has an area of 4.4 square miles.
For the most part, the city of Imperial Beach is a residential and recreational area with a proportion of it's local business
related to retailing and services. A wide variety of recreation can be found without commercialism - Water sports are
especially popular, and enjoyed year round. You should be sure to visit our new Portwood Pier Plaza as well. Imperial Beach
operates a 1,200 foot municipal fishing pier, with free fishing to the public. No license is required. "IB" - is also home of
The Chamber of Commerce Triathlon and The Chili and Jazz Festival held every summer.
Factoid:
Imperial Beach hosts the U. S. Open Sandcastle Competition every summer. This event attracts some 250,000 spectators who come
to enjoy the Sandcastles and Street Fair complete with an overwhelming firework display and parade.
